Everyone has experienced stress and anxiety at least once in their lives. But, unfortunately, many people experience it on a daily basis which can have a serious impact on their lives. One could say that today, stress is a normal part of life although too much of it will be a burden for body and mind.

While stress and anxiety may be ever-present, there are simple ways to get rid of them. So, if you are looking for some stress relief, the solutions might be closer than you think.

1.     Start exercising

var mnSrc = (isSSL ? ‘https:’ : ‘http:’) + ‘//contextual.media.net/nmedianet.js?cid=8CU3G4D0M’ + (isSSL ? ‘&https=1’ : ”);

})();

Exercising has so many benefits for the body and soul, that it’s no wonder it is also an excellent way to mitigate stress and anxiety. During physical activity, the brain produces endorphins which make you feel great, energized and in a better mood. However, exercising also affects the way you look and those who are stressed over the way they look will see improvements after only a month of hitting the gym.

The best way to start is by choosing the exercise that sits well with you, in order to avoid annoyance and consequently stressing out additionally. Yoga is an excellent choice for those who are looking for something peaceful and concentrated on inner tranquillity. For those who want to be more active, kickboxing, high-intensity interval training or Zumba may be a perfect fit to get rid of stress and anxiety.

2.     Hang out with your loved ones

The support and love you get from your friends and family is nurturing and will make you feel better about yourself. Every interaction with your loved ones will help in the release of oxytocin in your body which is a substance that relieves stress. However, socializing in person and online differ from one another and so they affect your emotional state differently.

Staying in touch with people you love is challenging with all the obligations, so many believe that social media is good enough substitute for that. However, studies showed that social media can add stress and not remove it, so face-to-face interaction is still a better and more effective way to feel better. So, spend less time on social media, and more with your friends having coffee or going for a walk.

3.     Get a pet

Having a pet has proven to have an extensive positive effect on the body and mind. Many kinds of research showed that the bond between a human and an animal will boost the production of oxytocin and reduces epinephrine – a stress-related hormone. Pets are not only excellent to boost your mood but are also perfect companions, great listeners and will love you no matter what.

4.     Have a massage

Massage has many benefits for the body and mind and reducing stress and relieving anxiety are one of them. Having a massage for a prolonged period of time will boost your energy and stimulate your emotional levels. Even those too busy to go for hands-on techniques can still enjoy its benefits with devices like Inada massage chairs at their homes or workplace.

Moreover, massage is an excellent way to improve circulation and relax muscles, as well as decrease cortisol levels in your body. Also, if you are physically active, this therapy will reduce the stiffness and promote the production of endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin which will elevate your mood.

5.     Go to nature

The healing properties of nature are well-known for centuries which is one of the reasons why resorts and retreats are situated far from urban settlements. Also, it was a common practice for the urban population to go to the countryside and rest or even have a summer house of their own. Even a park in the middle of the city would help if you can’t travel often or spend weekends away from your busy life.

And there are many activities to do in nature that will improve your mood like hiking and riding a bicycle. Greenery and fresh air will help you feel free and clear your head, so you will more easily deal with problems that stress you out and cause anxiety. Even a picnic by the city lake or in the botanical garden during lunchtime can help you relax and de-stressed.

In the end

Living in a society with an abundance of information and expectations can be very stressful. However, there are simple ways to get rid of stress and anxiety and improve the quality of life like going for a walk or buying a massage chair. After all, when there is will, there is also a way to make a step forward and improve.
