Last Thursday’s torrential downpour could not stop the flow of the event planned at Dunn’s Electrical, Lighting and Home Decor dubbed “Great Style at Every Age” for Design Week 2019.
The event held at the Red Hills road location featured presentations by Shikima Hinds Managing Director of Island Bride Jamaica and Joelle Smith Managing Director of If Walls Could Talk + Co-Founder/Managing Director of The Hub Coworking. In attendance were some of Jamaica’s most noted Influencers and Public figures including Former NBA Player and Professional Basketball Star Kimani Ffriend, and the Jamaica Observer Team inclusive of its Senior Associate Editor Lifestyle & Social Content, Ms. Novia McDonald Whyte.
The presentations were focused on creating a space to suit your personality and budget and looked at how space can be used and creatively filled with items of decor’ to make it your own.

Up first was Joelle Smith who shared a living room space she curated which featured a Sofa, end table, rug, and a bright mustard ottoman that made the room bright and colorful. She shared how we can easily integrate pieces we already have by simply finding an alternate use for them and deciding where in the home they are best suited.

Shikima’s presentation expanded on the design concepts introduced by Joelle as she took the invited guests on a walkthrough of the space where she focused on Designing for your personality with rooms she cleverly named: Foodie (Kitchen), Fashionista/Glam Room, Nature Lover (Patio), Workaholic (Home Office) and the Minimalist. She expressed that a room can be transformed by infusing elements of your own personality and adding small bits like Mirrors to open up a tiny space or a clothing rack to have more closet space. My favorite piece from this presentation was the Glam room which was first coined by the Kardashians as a room for a woman to get her hair and make-up done and is that space dedicated to being completely glamorous.

I enjoyed both presentations as I felt they were practical and applicable to my own space and gave me insight on how to fashionably update my space while still sticking to a budget.
All pieces used in the presentations can be found at Dunn’s Electrical Lighting and Home Decor located at 15 3/4 Red Hills Road.
