We’ve heard this time and time again –“Being a mom has made me better, my child/children motivate me to work harder”.

We met Deanna-Kay Reid a few years ago when we were searching the volunteers for our booth at Wedding Spectacular–her impressive resume and vibrant personality made her stand out from the rest and she was chosen to represent the brand. Since then, Deanna has taken the plunge and is now an entrepreneur with a focus on creating natural hair + natural products videos on YouTube. We recently caught up with her and learned that she is a new mom trying to find a balance between business and motherhood. Today, The Haute Lifestyle goes ‘Behind the Seams” with Deanna-Kay Reid.

THP: Tell us about yourself
Deanna: Heyyyy guys welcome to all things me, my name is Deanna-Kay Kristen Reid. I’ve been recently enrolled in the new mommy club, my mini-me is 5 months old as I write this and she is the wick to my candle without her my life wouldn’t be LIT! Pun intended ! Where am I from? I was born and raised in Montego Bay St. James where I attended Mt. Alvernia Preparatory and Kindergarten and then transitioned to Mt. Alvernia High school then Montego Bay Community College where I pursued an Associates Degree in Architecture and Construction Technology and finally the University of Technology, Jamaica where I was enrolled in the Construction Management Program .

THP: When did you start your YouTube Channel? ( name of channel + category )
Deanna: My first YouTube video was uploaded May 1, 2018, and I decided to name the channel Nature’s Best Friend to embody exactly who I was as I am obsessed with all things natural and my channel falls under the Lifestyle category.

THP: Since you’ve started, what has the journey been like + feedback from your audience?
Deanna:  Since I’ve started my channel I’ve received a lot of support from persons whom I’ve never exchanged words in person but they find my content edifying enough to subscribe to my channel which I am deeply grateful for.

I underestimated motherhood and as such the journey was not as smooth as I predicted so uploads and edit time is now a scarcity.

THP: Do you think Jamaica is now more accepting of an alternate career choice like yours?
Deanna:  Whether or not Jamaica supports this new direction, sooner rather than later they will have no choice but to accept it. Everything is moving in a digital space and online is the medium to perform most transactions nowadays. We see where the comedians in Jamaica used the platform to showcase their talents and now are able to venture into other areas on a broader scale.

THP: What are 5 Holy Grail Products you recommend for “newbie naturals”?
Deanna: Five holy grail products I recommend are as follows SHEA BUTTER, castor oil, ORS hair mayonnaise, anything Aloe Vera — I know this is not a product but water is the most important aspect of clear skin, long hair and a healthy body

THP: How do you find the balance between being a new mom + youtube?
Deanna: I am still finding the balance of being a new mom and managing my youtube channel and life, in general. I had a life before my daughter and ventures to embark on and taking her with me has lengthened the journey not canceled the vision.

Morgan’s Creek Vlog

THP: Where is your favorite place/s to purchase skin + hair products in Jamaica?
Deanna: My Favourite place to buy all my organic ingredients is Earth Elements in Half-way Tree, Proactive Lifestyle and OMG MORGAN’S CREEK !!!

THP: What is your content schedule like? (which days do you put out videos + vlogs)
Deanna: My content schedule is unpredictable I try to upload every week, initially it was 3 times per week, however, my baby no longer sleeps 18 hours a day and now she is up like 24/24/7.

THP: Finish the sentence ” I cannot live without my …”
Deanna: I cannot live without my baby girl

THP: What can we expect from you in coming months?
Deanna: For the coming months you can expect great things from Nature’s Best Friend. Don’t want to ruin the surprise too much but I am hoping to gain more subscribers by having special days designated for specific aspects of natural life, make it an interactive channel with the citizens of Jamaica by imparting knowledge and gaining from them as well. Have professionals sit down and break down benefits from a scientific and medical background, have cooking series helping people with meal planning and gym days where you can embark on the fitness journey with me and arrange seminars where different professionals and specialists come in and help you transition into this natural life.

Keep up Deanna  on Social Media and be Sure o subscribe to her YouTube Channel below

Hello There ??
 —————————————————————————————————
We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our posts, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure.
