While watching “Blogger” related videos on YouTube, I stumbled upon one that had the title “Blogger Revolution” or something to that effect and thought it would tell a tale of how a regular person took her regular Blog to Rockstar status–boy was I wrong!
This video was about a Blogger who got all the fame and was gifted free trips and tons of free clothing but was not happy. She did some research and realized she was a part of a big problem of commercialism all over the world and she was telling women to purchase clothing they don’t need and probably can’t afford that were sewn by people in Asia who worked under deplorable conditions and were paid anywhere from 10 cents to 80 cents just so we can stunt on the gram.
Think about that for a whole minute and let it really sink in — imagine thousands of people in a hot building under the whip and gun who are probably ill and injured and still have to sew these pieces for huge corporations like Nike and Zara for less than a dollar then see those same pieces in stores and online for thousands of dollars. This is a vicious cycle that needs to stop but the sad thing is it probably won’t. We all need clothing as this is a basic human need to cover ourselves as we can’t walk around naked– this is nothing short of a modern-day slavery and as always the big man at the top always win.
Watch the video above and really, really think about the people who make your clothes and decide if trying to wear the latest “fast fashion” digs is really worth it.
