Eating out with Haute : Mr. Breakfast – Say Goodbye to BORING Breakfast

Just like that! We’ve launched a new foodie feature where we’ll be eating out around Jamaica! The greatest thing about this feature is we will be trying some of the most unlikely eateries — from restaurants to street food. We will be visiting one or more places each month, take pictures and share our review here. Sounds simple enough right? Starting off  “Eating out with Haute” is Mr. Breakfast.

Mr. Breakfast is the brainchild of  Matthew Johnson a Chemical Engineer Grad at the University of Technology. Johnson got his name while on campus by a few of his peers and later started his pop-up breakfast offerings in the backyard of his St. Andrew home until now where he has a location that offers dine-in and delivery. Matthew hopes to have locations in Montego Bay and Portmore.

After being in a “no-cook lazy mood” on Sunday I decided to scroll through Instagram and search through Brunch and Breakfast options that were not the Traditional Jamaican Food and found Mr. Breakfast, unfortunately, by the time I got out of bed the Restaurant was already closed and I vowed to visit the next day.

The next day (Monday) I put on a flowery dress and drove down pass Devon House and made my way across Holborn Road inside the Spry Training Complex. For people who drive, you leave your car inside this complex, make your way through the small “walk through” gate on the right, and you will see a few stairs and there you will find “Mr. Breakfast“.

Under the shade of the cool mango tree was the window where you place your order and immediately in front of that was the menu board –options ranged from 1 Up Chicken Waffle Sandwich to Bus Di Gas Combo and had an IHOP and Denny’s feel.

The prices on the menu board were “millennial-friendly” aka extremely reasonably priced and you can definitely treat yourself at least twice per week. The vibrant yellow + chevron print stools made the dine-in area completely “Pinterest Worthy” and chill and I had no choice but to take photos right away! This seating offered a view of Dumfries Road while the Picnic Table and chair-combo seating gave you the chance to sit under the cool mango tree.

My Breakfast of choice was the Gourmet Pancake Combo where I chose chocolate chip pancakes, turkey omlette, and coffee. This spin on a classic omelet was delicious, as I grabbed forkfuls of the omelette, the cheese melted and as it made contact with the fluffy pancake, I knew this was breakfast done right!

The Pancake was so fluffy that I didn’t need maple syrup (which I hate anyway) and to top it off, the service was impeccable–they made breakfast felt fun and not mundane as it can be and with your name on the box, you feel right at home.

With such a wonderful experience, we are excited about the next location on our foodie adventures.

We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our posts, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure.
