Blogging is huge in America and other countries over the world, but it is still relatively new here in Jamaica. There are only a few other serious, professional Bloggers that are actually making a living or part-time earning.
I’ve written a few articles about my personal blogging journey and have even shared a few posts on how to be a Blogger. Today, I’ll be talking about how Blogging works since this is a question I get more often than never.

Think of Blogging as writing in your own personal diary (online) for the whole world to see — each entry you make is called a “Blog Entry” which then becomes a “Blog Post” when it has been published. I’ve heard people say “I put out a new Blog” when in reality they want to say they wrote something new for the Blog. Are you with me so far? The Blog is the actual website and the “Blog Post” is what you actually write. To set up a Blog you can use various Blogging platforms like Blogger or WordPress or more and you would then choose the name and it will have the platform at the end. If you choose “Jamaican Foodie” as your name and Blogger/Blogspot as the platform, it would be “jamaicanfoodie@blogspot.com“. If you want to step things up a notch you could purchase a domain name ending in .com. .net. .org. .uk and so on and it makes the blog easier to find.

How do Bloggers make money? various ways including Sponsored posts, Banner Ads, Selling Digital Products such as e-books, courses and guides, selling merchandise such as T-shirts and mugs (etc) and you could also do affiliate marketing. Though it seems and looks like a relatively simple concept, (it is) there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes like SEO, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media and of course using the right keywords. There are Bloggers who make hundreds of thousands of dollars over the world because they set up their blog like a business and have found a business blogging model that works for them.
Blogging is a real and lucrative job and you can create a successful career from it. If you find a blog or 2 that you will like, ensure you like, comment and share the content. A little support goes a long way.
