National Baking Company Foundation (NBCF) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to literacy, youth development, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education on Read Across Jamaica Day 2025, held on Tuesday (May 6), at three schools across the island.
These institutions included: Central Branch All-Age School located at 27B Slipe Pen Road, St. Alysious Primary School and neighbouring St. Joseph’s Infant School located along Duke Street in downtown Kingston.
National Baking Company Foundation pushed STEM for Read Across Jamaica Day 2025
For Read Across Jamaica Day 2025, NBCF, in partnership with STEM Sparks Solutions, took a unique approach—highlighting STEM through storytelling. Among the volunteers were Executive Director Lauri-Ann Samuels and Kimberly Campbell, Marketing Manager at Continental Baking Company Limited, who joined the effort to read Science in the Sun by Dianne A. Plummer —a story that seamlessly blends literacy with science education
Their reading sessions culminated in an exciting live demonstration of a volcanic eruption, directly inspired by the book, capturing the imaginations of students and educators alike.
“We believe combining literacy with STEM exploration helps plant the seeds of innovation from an early age,” said Samuels.

In addition to the interactive readings, NBCF further extended its impact by donating books and STEM-based activity kits to each participating school, reinforcing its commitment to education and nation-building through hands-on learning.
In years gone by, NBCF pledged over $159 million to “boost” Jamaica’s development agenda through improving our competencies in STEM.
This year’s Read Across Jamaica theme, Safeguarding the Future of Education: Adapting to the Changing Landscape, aligned perfectly with NBCF’s longstanding commitment for student and national upliftment.
In addition to their in-person readings, National Baking Company Foundation donated packages with their nutritious snack packs for students to enjoy after their reading sessions.
