5 Reasons to Watch #Clickbait on Netflix

If coming through with new Content in a Pandemic was a person it would be Netflix! The streaming platform stays releasing new movies and series with the latest being Clickbait.

Before I get into the premise of this series, I must let you know even though people on Twitter have been dubbing it a Cult favourite and they binge watched. It started out slow for me and was even lack lustre — I felt the plot dragged on and dragged out and the actress dubbed as “Pia” was somewhat tiresome to watch and melodramatic! Now that you know my two cents on the series, here is the premise based on Netflix and 5 reasons to watch.

The Premise

The newest series to hit number one on Netflix is Clickbait, and this looks a psychological thriller that can’t be missed. The twisty drama series stars Adrian Grenier (Entourage) as Nick Brewer, a father who gets kidnapped by a mysterious abductor who begins posting videos of his captive online.

All eight episodes of the miniseries were dropped just a few days ago, and the drama has already jumped into the top spot on the streaming site’s list of most-watched shows

At the start of the clip, we see Nick’s wife, Sophie (played by Get Out’s Betty Gabriel), reading a letter to Nick’s captor. “This is a message for Nick’s kidnapper,” she says. “He is a husband, a father, a brother. He’s kind, loving and gentle. You’ve made a terrible mistake. Let him come home.”

5 Reasons to Watch #Clickbait on Netflix

  1. It has more twists and turns than a Doughnut Shop: This series reminds me of “Pretty Little Liars”. Just when you think you know who the “killer” is, there goes another suspect! There is a lot of jump scares indicated by the typical swell of music throughout that will leave you at the edge of your bed. Be warned, nothing happens after this.
  2. Diversity + Inclusivity : The main family is inter-racial which is not a big issue but should be commended as it’s not as popular on Netflix. However, it is somewhat swept under the rug until the “Black Son” is brought to the “White Police” station by his White Aunt for which is main character quips “It’s different for him”. This means though he’s mixed, the Police will view him as a Black boy and will treat him differently based on the colour of his skin.
  3. It’s something to Watch: Yup, it’s something to watch and kill the time during the Pandemic. Here in Jamaica, we are in the midst of “No Movement days” which pretty much means we are stuck at home with nowhere to go. If you enjoyed Psychological thrillers like “Gone Girl”,  “A Simple Favour” and “Behind Her Eyes”, you will enjoy this series.
  4. Adrian Grenier Is Back: Remember once upon a time in a far away land in Hollywood there was a fictional aspiring guy and his  his Entourage trying to make it big in L.A? NO?, You are probably too young! Entourage was a huge show almost as big as “Sex and the City” on HBO where Adrian was the main character. We haven’t seen him in anything major since then as the lead. He’s back, still handsome as ever, but with a tightly snatched face!
  5. The Parents are a Part of the Plot: In most movies and series where Parents and Kids are showcased, they seem to operate in alternate universes where their paths never seem to cross even though they live in the same house! C’mon, you must have seen this and probably wondered how and why they operate independently of each other. However, In Clickbait, they exist together and are a part of the inclusive story line. Each character is given their unique point of view on how the story unfolds and they rely on each other for information and support.

Conclusion

Let us know if you watched this new series and how you liked it. Did you figure out who the killer was?
