Imagine a world where women are bold, independent, and not afraid to go after what they want or ask for what they want — no need to imagine, It’s 2020 and everything is possible!
It was just last week when I was having one of those discussions at work when “Bumble” popped up! I had no idea what it was, though I have a cap that hangs on my dresser that bears the logo and that soft yellow hue. If you are like me and have no idea what Bumble is, keep reading as I take you on a magical carpet ride to the new world of dating in 2020.
Bumble is a dating app similar to Tinder, where daters create a small profile of themselves with pictures and they can swipe through potential suitors. To challenge outdated heterosexual norms, women make the first move on Bumble.
Bumble: Empowering Women to Make the First Move
Dating in 2020 is rather interesting– you see a person online that catches your eye, you “shoot your shot” by “sliding into their” DM if they like you they respond and you quickly become a thing if not tough luck. Most of the time, It’s guys who shoot their shot as this is what society expects, it’s a societal norm you could say. This sometimes does not work out because if you (men) are not the girl’s type she will not respond. Us women are taught we should sit back and allow the man to come to us as this is how it should be and this sometimes causes us to miss out on somebody truly amazing.
Bumble has removed that awkwardness by allowing women to make the first move! The way the match-making works is quite similar to other dating sites based on location, interests, age, and other factors but!! The woman makes the first move! I know a lot of people with old-school beliefs are probably cringing reading this, but I think Bumble empowers women. Why should we sit and wait for someone to come to us if we are interested? Guys go after what they want all the time even things that are way out of their reach and are praised. Women on the other hand are another story — women who go after men are seen as desperate. Don’t get me wrong, there are some women who are actually desperate and go after the wrong guys all the time, but that is just a handful.
I think if you at least show interest or give signals that you are interested in a guy in a tasteful non- stalker way is commendable. Do you think Bumble empowers women? Or does it make us look desperate?
I personally have not tried Bumble, but let me know in the comments section if you have and how you like it.
