The Grammy’s 2021: The Good and the Bad

The 63rd annual Grammy’s was held on Sunday, March 14, 2021, in Downtown Los Angeles outside the Staples Center. This year Media Personality & Comedian Trevor Noah reprised his role as host and kept things light-hearted, though respectful of the times as he opted for a Gucci Suit and Tiffany & Co. Jewelry.

The event featured a mix of virtual and in-person performances where celebs staged their set-up in different parts of the country and even in Seoul Korea! Leading the pack this year with 9 wins was Queen B herself! While Houston native Megan Thee Stallion was the breakout star who took home 3 Grammy’s in the following categories: Best New Artist, Rap Song, Rap Performance. Taylor Swift made a musical comeback by snagging the Album of the Year Award for her Folklore album.

History was made at the event where it was announced that Beyonce was the most awarded woman for winning 28 Grammys! Beyoncé’s 28th Grammy was presented in honor of Black Parade, a celebration of black power and resilience, which she released on Juneteenth last year. Apparently, she does not like surprises as she was literally taken aback and had that “what’s happening and why is the camera on me look”.  Things definitely got super awkward when she went on stage with Megan Thee Stallion as she seemingly just stood there while Megan gave her speech. Yes, we understand that it was Megan’s moment, but I was expecting her to have some kind of emotion, but there was literally none!

Other winners of the night included:

  • Album of the year: Taylor Swift – Folklore
  • Record of the year: Billie Eilish – Everything I Wanted
  • Song of the year: H.E.R. – I Can’t Breathe
  • Best new artist: Megan Thee Stallion

On to the performances! I thought everyone brought their A-game except for this one group I didn’t know but in my opinion, it was all about artist and genre preference. I enjoyed Taylor Swift’s fairy-tale-inspired performance and Dua Lipa’s disco meets house music performance and I loved Billie Ellish’s performance. The stand-out performance was of course Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B with W.AP (which got backlash) but to be fair, why invite them to perform knowing the song they would perform then have a problem with it? It’s all in the name of Art! Cardi B struggled throughout the performance but it was later revealed her costume weighed 60 pounds! Also, let’s backtrack a little, why didn’t Beyonce perform with Megan Thee Stallion during “Savage”? Seems a little odd but, I’m not a celebrity!

Best & Worst Dressed

We here at Haute People tune into these events for the Fashion! I know a lot of people will not agree with me on this choice but my worst dressed females are Beyonce and Doja Cat and my pick for Best Dressed Male is Da Baby! It was nice to see Da Baby dressed up and behaving and the cherry on top for me was that he brought his mom as his plus one. Check out the gallery below to let us know who your Best & Worst dressed stars are.
