Christmas will be here before you know it and as much as I would like to not admit it, I’m not feeling the Christmas spirit! I’ve picked my Christmas Tree theme, but I just can’t find a way to actually get the the out, decorated and ready.
Here in Jamaica, Christmas is not as big as it is in the States, and this doesn’t help that I have not been in the States since the start of the Pandemic which is something strange as I’ve always celebrate Christmas overseas since the 90s. If you are like me and is not quite feeling the Christmas Spirit, here are a few things you can do to “get ready”.
How We’re Getting Ready for Christmas
Watch Christmas Movies
I “did a thing” on Sunday that I have not done in the last 10 years. I gave myself a day off! I didn’t turn on the Computer, I didn’t respond to any emails, messages or texts. The only things I did was clean my room a bit, make my meals then turned my T.V on. The station I landed on was Lifetime, aka my guilty pleasure, where I was pleasantly surprised with “It’s A Wonderful Lifetime” where they were showing Christmas Movies all day long! This lifted my mood a bit and reminded me of Snow, that we don’t have here in Jamaica but that I’ve been able to experience when I travel.
Christmas Shopping
I don’t know about anybody else but I love giving and receiving gifts! I browsed a few local stores to see what they had in store literally and picked up a few things I know my Nephews and Niece would love. I’ve also visited sites like Amazon, Walmart, H &M Victoria’s Secret just to name a few to check out their offerings and bought a few things. If you live in the Caribbean and use a freight forwarder, start Shopping NOW! If you want to receive things in time for Christmas as there will be delays.
Taking Inventory
I like to take an Inventory of the decorations I currently have just to ensure I’m not over spending or double buying things that I already have. As I’ve stated earlier, I love Christmas and have a theme every year so I don’t just buy random decorations and throw them on the tree and hope for the best. It is a whole under taking for me that takes careful planning, shopping and selecting the right pieces as I’m curating decorations that will last me all my adult life.
Spruce Up Your Space
In the same way I have a theme for Christmas each year, I also like to change up my room every year. Last year I did the grown and sexy vibe where I went for a minimalist theme with Grey and White. This year, It’s an elevated version of that, which will exude confidence, sexiness and opulence with hues of greys, black, gold and white. Hopefully I can share a few of the things I plan to DIY as I did that last year with two canvas paintings that turned out great that I would love to share with you to help you save a few extra dollars.
Do Something Cool and Amazing
If you are one of those people who enjoy taking photos, why not have a Christmas Photo shoot? You can use the Images for Social Media, Print on a Canvas and hang in your home, or for Christmas Cards. This will be a great reminder and something you will have for years to come that will put you in a good mood whenever you look at them.
One cool thing I’m doing is getting ready to release our Annual Gift Guide that features products that will make great gifts created by local artisans. Be on the lookout for “The Haute People Gift Guide 2021”. I hope you will love the products we selected this year.
Let us know if you are feeling the “Christmas Spirit this Year” and what you do to get in the “Christmas Mood”.
