The Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2024 Collection featuring Pharrell Williams as Creative Direction of Menswear was a celebration of Joy and Culture!
Louis Vuitton SS24 | Pharrell Williams as Creative Director
The show opened with a short film of two men sitting beside the River Seine and talking about their aspirations and dreams of success.
We were soon transported “up the river” (pun intended) to The Pont Neuf, the city’s oldest bridge which is located directly opposite the Louis Vuitton HQ.
In attendance were guests like Rihanna and ASAP Rocky, Zendaya, Megan Thee Stallion, Willow and Jaden Smith and Jay-Z, and Beyonce.
For the Louis Vuitton spring summer 2024 Collection, Pharrell played on his signature style and infused the house’s signature Damier Ebene print in an interesting way made to look like a pixelated camouflage which he called “Damoflage”. There were hues of green, black, and brown and a few fun colours that were more vibrant and can be deemed “street chic”.
Music was a very important part of this show as the music changed, so did the clothes! There were pearls, leathers, Aztec print, and even one that looked like it was commissioned by artist Henry Taylor. There was even a jacket that featured a pixelated design of the Pont Neuf River and even Denim iterations of the same design (as seen on Rihanna and ASAP Rocky).
The Bags
We saw the popular speedy taking on a fresh and colourful look inspired by New York’s “Canal Street” known for designer knock-offs for which the bag saw a new colour way and a less structured design that uses soft leather so the bag sort of slouches and collapses and can be carried in a number of ways.
Another LV Signature bag the Alma also saw a revival with darker matted hues and what looked like foil-embossed LV Logos in larger sizes.
The bum bag also made a return in a number of colours, shapes on sizes that were also seen on Kim Kardashian in a few photos online.
Among these were mini bags in interesting shapes like a globe and also a boat that played homage to Virgil Abloh’s Pre-fall 2022 Collection where he debuted a plane bag.
“We collaborated in spirit”
as he made reference to Virgil Abloh .
The show ended with a golf cart with “liberty” on the front that carried a gold Vernis Trunk on the back. Louis Vuitton started with luggage so it was an interesting turn for Pharrell to end with these pieces.
Pharrell then came out the stage and took his bow after inviting the entire design team to have their moment.
Let me know what you thought about the collection and which of the pieces you would buy if any.
