Every parent hopes to understand their child. For Giselle Trail McIntosh, that understanding took on a new meaning the day she learned her son, Dominic, was on the autism spectrum. What followed was a journey that redefined motherhood, advocacy, and voice, not just for her son, but for every Jamaican child living in silence.

A Jamaican Mother’s Story of Advocacy and Autism

This journey now takes shape in her debut book, Dominic’s Ausome World, and the launch of Autism Trails – The Ausome Campaign, a national autism awareness initiative officially kicking off on November 1, 2025, at 11 Trinidad Terrace, New Kingston.

A Mother’s Love Becomes A Movement

Autism

Giselle’s story is not about struggle alone, it’s about strength. Dominic’s Ausome World, now available on Amazon, offers a deeply personal lens into life as a parent of a neurodiverse child in a country where awareness is still catching up. It’s a story many families know, but few have felt empowered to tell.

Autism Trails – The Ausome Campaign is built around one core message: visibility matters. For too long, autism in Jamaica has been tucked away, misjudged, or misunderstood. This campaign aims to break that silence, through books, community engagement, and national advocacy, and to foster a culture of empathy where all children, regardless of neurological differences, are seen, heard, and supported.

Why This Matters Now

Autism

Autism is not rare. Yet in many parts of the Caribbean, including Jamaica, it remains underdiagnosed, underfunded, and under-discussed. Families face barriers not only to diagnosis and services, but to understanding. The stigma surrounding neurodiversity continues to keep parents isolated and children underserved.

Giselle’s work arrives at a critical time. With the launch of Autism Trails – The Ausome Campaign, she’s creating a platform that merges storytelling with advocacy, and offering Jamaicans a chance to see autism not as a limitation, but as a different way of experiencing the world.

A National Invitation

Autism

The November 1 launch event will bring together educators, parents, and supporters to celebrate the official debut of Dominic’s Ausome World and the unveiling of the campaign’s mission. It will feature community discussions, book signings, and opportunities to connect with families navigating similar journeys.

The campaign also aims to use digital storytelling and social media to drive national conversation, starting with Giselle’s Instagram page, @autismtrails, which has already started to connect families and followers who see their own stories reflected in hers.

This is more than a book. More than a campaign. It is a mother’s declaration that every child deserves to be understood, and that advocacy begins at home.

A Call to Care

Giselle Trail McIntosh is not asking for sympathy, she’s asking for solidarity. Autism Trails – The Ausome Campaign challenges Jamaica to care, to listen, and to show up for children who may not always have the words to advocate for themselves.

As the movement grows, it asks a simple question of everyone: What if visibility could change everything?
