Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh to Lead Emancipation Day Parade

Miss World 2019/2020, Toni-Ann Singh, will again make her mark in history when she leads out as Queen of the Parade on Emancipation Day, Monday, August 1, at the Float and Street Parade being organized by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in celebration of Jamaica’s Diamond Jubilee.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport the Honourable Olivia Grange, in outlining all the elements that will fuse seamlessly together for the grand spectacle on Emancipation Day stated:

“We will have eight attractively decorated floats, five music trucks, classic cars, marching bands, and over 1,000 costumed revellers depicting several aspects of our historic journey to 60. We will welcome the return of masquerade bands, Jonkunu, and effigies in honor of our national heroes and cultural icons. The theme for the float parade is ‘Reigniting a Nation for Peace, Love, and Unity.”

As part of the pageantry, Toni-Ann, who will be a participant in the ‘God Is Love’ Float, will make her entrance in a convertible classic car and will reign as Queen of the Parade in a spectacular ‘Convoy of Beauty’. Some of the other queens who will step out – also in convertible classic cars are:

Ms Jamaica Universe – Daena Soares

Ms Jamaica World – Khalia Hall

Also accompanying this Convoy will be Safari vehicles with past Festival Queens.

The ‘God Is Love’ Float will also have mini music systems playing religious music, while leaders of churches will be transported in classic cars.

The festivities start at 10 a.m. on Monday and Minister Grange is encouraging Jamaicans to come out in their thousands to celebrate and line the parade route. The revelers and floats will start the journey at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre and will pass Devon House, Clock Tower in Half-Way Tree, Emancipation Park, NCB Towers, Little Theatre, Bustamante Hospital for Children, and end up at the National Stadium car park.

Minister Grange is also urging Jamaicans to join the Spirit of Independence campaign by decorating their spaces – businesses, government offices, town centres, churches, community centres, and other public spaces in the national colours.

“Wear the black, green and gold with pride. Wear it bold. Show your creativity as we celebrate the greatest little island in the world,” Minister Grange stated.
