Collection 10 it’s called, Sergio Hudson’s New York Fashion Week show that premiered last night at the Léman Ballroom in Manhattan. The first noticeable thing is that this collection is more sensual and fun than other of Sergio Hudson collections, which tend to be print-less with bold solid colors. But Hudson has shaken things up a bit, perhaps letting us know that we can’t put his sartorial storytelling in one box.
Sergio Hudson Unveils His Sensual Collection 10 During New York Fashion Week
“This is a pivotal collection in the brand’s history,” says Hudson. “The Sergio Hudson woman has come fully to life. We know exactly who she is and we are going after her.” The South Carolina but Los Angeles-based designer worked hard to get to where he is now to build his brand. Studying fashion in Atlanta, Hudson started out, post-studies, doing made-to-measure work, then got a slight breakthrough on Bravo’s Styled To Rock design show in 2014. Since his brand’s conception in 2014, he has made waves in American fashion, dressing former First Lady Michelle Obama for President Biden’s Inauguration in January—as well as Vice President Kamala Harris.
Silks and chiffon are some of the textiles used in the collection. “I have a few fabrics that I always use like wool crepe, silk charmeuse and chiffon, and cashmere. This collection also has a lot of velvet, suede, and leather. Because a lot of the looks are seasonless, there are things you can wear year-round. I wanted to take the complication out of it and make in between collections that could be worn for fall or resort, or for any season,” says Hudson. “I don’t want customers to feel like they have to wear it at a certain time.”
Hudson unveils one of his signature gifts: colored tailored pants suits.

And let’s not discount his tailored suits. One of the best suits and coat tailors, Hudson understands that women want, no, they crave a proper pants suit. A lime green pant suit has velvet material around the shouldering, and like a rich blue pants suit, is paired with a tailored bra as opposed to a blouse. The detailing is impeccable. The bra for the lime green bra incorporates velvet into it. And a rich pink pants suit is total girl box with sharpened shoulders with the jacket done in a double-breasted technique of overlapping front flaps and noticeable pockets on the jacket. This suit can be worn blouse or blouse-less.
The inspiration comes from an era. “It’s in part inspired by the singer Prince and the New Power Generation era, so everything is very sexy, but clean and modern. I’ve tried to create a world like he did during that album run,” muses Hudson.
Collaborating with Malone Souliers, a shoe and accessories brand. Hudson chose to work with the shoe company again this year, and the two were able to create two styles of shoes that match each look in the Sergio Hudson sartorial storytelling. The Mimi and the Nana shoes are done in Stretch Satin, Suede, Velvet, and Nappa Leather, and completed in rich color—a Hudson signature touch and metallics.
