A Fashion Show with Purpose

The Canadian Women’s Club of Jamaica (CWC), a non-profit organization, brings together Canadian women living in Jamaica along with non-Canadian members who share the club’s mission of community development. Their primary goal is to uplift vulnerable groups by supporting various charitable projects focused on children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. To fund these initiatives, the club hosts two significant annual events: the Harvest Fair in October and the Spring Into Fashion Show in May.

This year, the focus was on the Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre. Located in the Riverton City area, it’s the only remaining school in Riverton Meadows, a community hit hard by the pandemic. Due to lack of funding, many schools in the area were forced to close. However, thanks to the continued support from organizations like the CWC, the Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre remains open. The school, overseen by the Saint Patrick’s Foundation and chaired by Hermine Metcalf, is registered with the Early Childhood Commission (ECC), maintaining its commitment to providing quality education to the children of the community.

An Evening of Glamour and Giving

This year’s Spring Into Fashion Show was held under the patronage of the Canadian High Commissioner to Jamaica, His Excellency Mark Berman, and his wife, Allison Berman. Their support and presence at the event underlined the importance of community involvement and international solidarity.

Addressing the audience, Berman expressed his enthusiasm:

“We are delighted to welcome you all to the Canadian Women’s Club (CWC) 14th annual Gala Spring Into Fashion Show. While this is our first show since moving to Jamaica last August, I’m sure many returning guests enjoy coming to see a lineup of some of Jamaica’s creative fashion talents.”

A Celebration of Jamaican Fashion

Fashion took center stage as local designers and models strutted the runway, captivating the audience with bold and innovative styles. The lineup included some of Jamaica’s most talented designers:

  • Heather Laine showcased her signature pieces, blending elegance with contemporary flair.

  • Escala Swim and Active Wear by Denise Katz brought a splash of vibrant, sporty looks to the catwalk.

  • Endless Designs by Janseen Graham displayed intricate patterns and stylish silhouettes.

  • Neahlis, known for her eclectic approach, introduced her much-anticipated “Timeless” Collection.

  • Lyric by Leontre embraced modernity with a hint of nostalgia.

  • T&T Fashions added a cultural twist with bold prints and colors.

  • Maxbrown International added bespoke menswear suits

The event also featured a curated lineup of fashion models, public figures, and industry experts, all of whom came together to celebrate Jamaican fashion while supporting an important cause.

Cocktails, Auctions, and Community Spirit

No fashion show is complete without a touch of luxury. Guests were greeted with signature cocktails courtesy of CPJ, setting the tone for an evening of elegance. In addition to the fashion displays, attendees participated in a silent auction, bidding on an array of exciting items, including:

  • Gift baskets filled with gourmet treats

  • Fine wines and spirits

  • Jewelry from local artisans

  • Dining experiences, including dinners and desserts

  • Travel and hotel packages for a well-deserved getaway

The lively auction and glamorous ambiance were complemented by the knowledge that every bid and every ticket purchased would help support the Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre.

The Canadian Women’s Club of Jamaica continues to make a significant impact through its fundraising efforts, and this year’s event proved once again that fashion and philanthropy can go hand in hand.

By bringing together local fashion icons, passionate supporters, and a community-driven cause, the show not only celebrated Jamaican creativity but also made a tangible difference in the lives of children. As the lights dimmed and the evening came to a close, attendees left with more than just memories of stunning fashion—they left knowing they had played a part in something truly meaningful.
